Education Queensland International (EQI)
Education Queensland Overseas (EQI), a division of the Queensland Department of Education and Training, is the organization in charge of international students who wish to study at Queensland's public primary and secondary schools. Parents may feel safe bringing their children to study in Queensland as EQI offers care for foreign students from the moment they arrive.
General introduction
Each year, more than 85,000 international students from 160 countries come to Queensland for its world-class education system, which includes over 100 public Primary and Secondary schools, as well as attractive landscapes and comfortable living. Subjects will vary by location, industry and research strengths, and connections with local universities and colleges will all be part of each school's program.
In addition to a wide range of program options, Education Queensland International offers a variety of support services for international students to help them succeed in their studies, including: facilities, dedicated professional guides, homestays, and 24-hour emergency assistance.

Education Queensland International (EQI) provides a wide range of educational opportunities for students aged 5 to 18. EQI offers world-class educational programs, facilities, and support services for international students, with almost 30 years of experience in education. These programs are offered by more than 90 EQI-accredited public schools, providing international students with a strong academic and professional foundation.

Queensland Government Schools have the resources and facilities to support innovative 21st-century learning, including: online learning technology, computers, science labs and multimedia, academic, vocational, creative arts and sports facilities.
Programs and Entry requirements
Primary school:
EQI has more than 19 primary schools, all primary school international students receive additional English training throughout the program through specialized English courses, and receive dedicated help from teachers when participating in classroom activities.
- Requirements: For students who are 5 years old or older and must live with a parent or relative for the duration of enrollment
- Length of study: 1 semester 6 months to 7 years
- Age: 5 - 11 years old
- Grades: From Preparatory Grade 1 to Grade 6
- Admission: Term 1 (January) or Term 2 (July)
High School Preparation (HSP)
EQI's High School Preparation (HSP) Program is an accelerated English language program that prepares students for entry into a full-fledged High School program.
In this program, students will be trained to develop the levels of English language proficiency, study skills, and academic language use needed for subjects including Mathematics, Science, Technology, Research Social Studies and Literature.
- Admission requirements: Completed all required subjects of the previous 2 years of study
- Length of study: 10 - 40 weeks (depending on the student's English level), 25 hours of lessons per week
- Age: 12 - 18 years old
- Admission: Students can enroll at the start of any semester
High school
The High School Program is for students who want to graduate from High School in Queensland and qualify for post-secondary education in Australia or other countries. Students can choose from over 50 schools across Queensland; each school provides quality teaching and care and also offers special courses such as Sports, Arts and Languages.
Students who complete Years 11 and 12 will be awarded an internationally recognized Queensland Certificate of Education.

High School (Short-term study abroad)
This course provides a short-term high school program, providing a short-term study abroad experience for students, providing opportunities for students to pursue personal goals, exchange cultures and academics. Participating in this program, students will study in an international environment, improve their English and learn about Australian culture before returning home to continue their studies.
- Admission Requirements: Have completed all the subjects of the previous 2 years of study and one of the following English requirements:
- Have completed a High School Preparation program or equivalent course
- Have completed at least the previous 2 years of study in English

International Baccalaureate (IB)
The International Baccalaureate (IB Diploma) is an internationally recognized curriculum and is taught at specialized schools in Queensland. Upon completion of Years 11 and 12, students are awarded a Queensland Certificate of Education along with the International Baccalaureate Diploma.
Students who wish to enroll in the IB program need to achieve high academic results in a number of subjects before applying for or passing an entrance exam.
- Admission requirements: Have completed the 9th and 10th grade programs, achieved high academic results in some subjects or passed the entrance exam. Have IELTS Academic 5.5
- Duration of study: 1 semester of 6 months, 1 academic year or 2 year Baccalaureate course
- Age: 15 - 18 years old
- Grade: Grade 11 and Grade 12
- Admission: Term 1 (January) or Term 2 (July)
Summer excursion
EQI helps Queensland students enjoy a learning experience through full-time supervised co-curricular travel to exciting attractions across Australia.
- Program time: April, June, September and December
- Program duration: 1 to 2 weeks
- Attractions: Attractions change every year
In addition, EQI also provides University Foundation courses to Queensland universities for students who have completed Year 11 and Year 12; Transfer programs from High School to Colleges and Vocational Colleges.
