Netherlands Student Visa Policy

Referring to the Netherlands, perhaps the thing that makes people feel the most impressive is that this country has up to half of the area below sea level. Not only that, in the eyes of international friends, the Netherlands is also a country that always leads in the quality of education. Therefore, in recent years, universities in the Netherlands have been trusted by many international students to study. This has been verified in the academic year 2018 - 2019, according to statistics of the Netherlands Organization for the Promotion of Education (Nuffic), there are more than 122,000 international students from more than 160 countries and territories studying in Hanoi. The Netherlands VISA Procedure Instruction

This article guides the process of applying for a student VISA for Vietnamese students. Please note that each school's specific procedure may vary. On the main website of each Dutch university, there are detailed instructions on how to apply for a student visa with international students. Students are encouraged to follow the steps provided on the school website and refer to the article below to prepare the best VISA application.

Part 1: Preparing documents for VISA application:

The process of preparing the application for a student visa will be done directly between the student and the Dutch university. Here are the important steps to know:

  • Transfer to the Dutch school the expenses requested in the "Tuition Invoice", including:

1. Tuition fees (1 year)

2. Pay VISA fee

3. Pay a deposit (Variable from 10,500 - 12,000 Euro. This amount will be 100% refunded when the student successfully opens an account at a bank in the Netherlands.) (Note: Students can choose the alternative financial proof method for deposit payment)

4. Insurance money (Insurance for international students is required. You can choose to buy another student insurance package that is not recommended by the school)

  • The Dutch school confirms the successful receipt of the money and sends the students the completed documents to start the process of applying for a student VISA with IND;
  • Submit "Provisional Certificate of High School Graduation" to the Dutch school. Note:

1. This step is for 12th graders only

2. Depending on the VISA process of each school, the school will send the student's VISA application to IND before or after receiving the "Provisional Certificate of High School Graduation"

  • Dutch schools will officially notify students if all documents for VISA application are complete and legal to send to IND. Time to receive VISA results from 6-8 weeks.

Part 2: Notes when going to get the visa at the Netherlandish Embassy/Consulate 

Step 1: Prepare 02 sets of documents as follows:

Set 1: (Note: This application will be kept by the Embassy/LSQ)

1. Passport with signature: Original + 01 photocopy

2. VISA approval letter from IND - Visa approval (Written in Dutch - with V-number): 01 photocopy

3. Form MVV (Download: https://bit.ly/32Twt0G)

4. 02 Photos (Standard: https://bit.ly/2Z1Vc1N )

5. Letter of acceptance to study at a Dutch university: 01 photocopy

6. Confirmation of appointment with the Embassy/Consulate: 01 hard copy (if any)

Set 2: (Note: The list of documents below is used for comparison and checking when there is an additional request from the staff of the Embassy/Consulate. Other documents may be required additionally.)

7. Relevant documents proving the deposit for living expenses: 01 photocopy

8. TT slip - Successful wire transfer: 01 photocopy

9. High school transcript or College transcript: Original + 01 notarized copy

10. Provisional high school diploma/ High school diploma/ University degree: Original + 01 notarized translation

11. IELTS/TOEFL: Original + 01 photocopy

12. Booking/air ticket (If any): 01 photocopy

13. Dutch health insurance: 01 photocopy

Step 2: Make an appointment:

Select: “Long-stay VISA (MVV)” -> Country “Vietnam” -> “Long-stay visa for residents of this country or region” -> “Make appointment”

Step 3: According to the appointment schedule, students bring documents to:

At the Embassy/Consulate, students will be instructed to fingerprint and submit documents (see Step 1). Passport results will be returned to students from 5-7 working days.

Note: Students may be interviewed based on the request of the staff of the Embassy/Consulate.
