RMIT University

The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology commonly known as RMIT University is a research university founded in Melbourne, Australia. The university has multiple campuses and is internationally acclaimed for the quality of its teaching and professional training, as well as its Applied Research and other fields of study.

General Introduction

The school was founded by a politician named Francis Ormond in 1887. Initially, the school operated at night, where science and technology, social sciences and natural sciences were taught after school. The school was designated as a public university in 1992. RMIT University enrolls nearly 87,000 students each year including both domestic and international students. 

 

Strengths and achievements

In the QS World University Rankings by Subject, RMIT is ranked among the top universities in the world, with 28 out of 39 highly regarded subject areas. The school also continues to perform well on a global scale, with four subject areas standings in the top 50. 

  • 1st in the Asia-Pacific region for Art Art and Design
  • Architecture and Urban Design placed third in Australia and 28th worldwide.
  • 3rd in Australia and 41st worldwide in communication and media studies.
  • The Library and Information Management industry is currently in the top 40 globally.
  • In Australia, RMIT is ranked 7th in Geography and Geology, and both are in the top 150 in the world rankings.
  • Development Research is ranked 7th in Australia and among the top 100 globally.
  • Aerospace, mechatronics, and manufacturing engineering ranked 7th worldwide. 
  • Humanities and Social Sciences are ranked 8th in Australia and 116th worldwide.
  • Natural Sciences has risen 40 places since 2016 and now ranks 346th in the world.

Facilities

The main campus of RMIT is situated in Melbourne, with two branch campuses in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam. It also has a research and collaboration center in the Spanish city of Barcelona. 

The main Melbourne campus has the characteristics of an ancient city, including 3  main research institutes. There are public transport systems, restaurants, parks, and museums nearby which are extremely convenient for students’ demands.

In addition to the main campus, RMIT has other 2 campuses in Bundoora and Brunswick, as well as research and training centers in Melbourne and the Grampians National Park (in the Point Cook and Hamilton area).

Tuition fees:

  • Undergraduate program: 35.280 AUD per year
  • Associate program:: 34.440 AUD per year

Entry requirements

  • Age: ≥ 16 years old.  
  • TAFE course: ≥ IELTS 5.5 (no band less than 5.0) or equivalent
  • Associate degree: ≥ IELTS 6.0 (no skill less than 5.5) or equivalent
  • Undergraduate degree:≥ IELTS 6.5 (no band less than 6.0) or equivalent
  • Graduate degree: ≥ IELTS 7.0 (no band below 6.5) or equivalent
 

Scholarships

  1. The Ph.D. Scholarship offers a 10% discount on tuition fees for RMIT Vietnam Alumni. The requirement is that alumni have completed RMIT degrees at Vietnamese campuses, including 1-year exchange students on RMIT Melbourne campuses. Students who gained Bachelor's degrees from RMIT University Vietnam and RMIT Graduate Melbourne, have been offered admission and application to RMIT Australia's Master of Coursework program. 
  2. The scholarship offers a 20% discount for students studying in a pre-university program or studying abroad in English.
  3. A scholarship of AUD 10,000 is open for Southeast Asian students applying to the STEM Associate program.
