The United States is a federal constitutional republic consisting of 50 states and 1 federal district. The United States is Washington D.C - located in the middle of North America. The capital of The United States lies next to the Pacific Ocean into the West and the Atlantic Ocean into the East, at the North of America there is Canada and from America to the South there is Mexico. Alaska is located in the Northwest of the North American colony and contiguous to Canada in the East. Hawaii lies in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The United States also has 14 territories known as insular areas, scattered around the Caribbean and the Pacific Ocean; New York City is the biggest city in the United States.
The US has a large area and wide ranges of terrains including most of the climate types. The mild climate is found in most areas, tropical climate in Hawaii and in the South of Florida, the polar climate in Alaska, Mediterranean climate in coastal California. Thousands of students all over the world direct toward the education of The United States because of their quality and advanced science and technology background.
With the intensive relationship between Vietnam and the United States, the big number of Vietnamese communities (about 2 million people) living in The US converge in California, Washington, Texas and Massachusetts, Florida, and New York. The education system here is creditable, flexible, and includes many scholar programs in the state of graduate and postgraduate. The US now is one of the most high-rated destinations for Vietnamese students to study. Certifications in the US are highly appreciated by recruiters. There are more than 10.000 Vietnamese students who move to The US to study every year. (According to ICE’s statistics)
Nursery schools and Kindergartens
Compulsory public nursery schools and kindergartens in The US are not in need. Most of the families voluntarily find schools, pay the fees for nursery and kindergartens.
Primary school
At the age of 6, students are allowed to start to study at primary schools. Primary education includes 5 grades, from grade 1 to grade 5.
Secondary school
After finishing 5 grades of primary education, students would step into the next page called “Secondary school”. Secondary education includes Middle schools / Junior high school (from grade 6 to grade 9) and High school (from grade 9 to grade 12).
Higher education
Students after finishing secondary school will have a chance to study at a higher education. To higher education, students have 2 specific choices:
Junior or Community college: Students will have 2 years studying at a 2-year-college course and students can get an Associate Degree after completing 2 years in college. Then, students will study another 2-year-course at a Senior College or a University to get a Bachelor Degree.
Senior college or University: Students will have a chance to get a Bachelor Degree.
Postgraduate education
Students who got Bachelor's Degree can keep on studying in 1 or 2 years to get a Master's Degree or a Doctorate Degree.
Master degree - MA: Usually takes 2 years.
Doctorate degree - Ph.D.: For students who want to pursue academic careers in particular fields. The program lasts from 2 to 6 years. However, some schools require a Master's to continue pursuing a Doctorate degree.
If you hold an F-1 visa in the US which allows international students to enroll in full-time programs such as language exchange, high schools, universities, academies, etc, you can work for 20 hours per week in one semester and 40 hours per week in holidays. However, you can only work in the school in which you are studying. For instance, you could enjoy working for service organizations in your schools such as libraries or canteens.
As you want to work at another place that is not your school, you have to ask for the allowance at The United States Immigration in the condition that you have already been studying here for at least 1 year since you were granted a visa or now working or interning the job which is related to your specialized sectors.
Co-op Program: Half-semesters are usually held in universities, another half is used for students’ part-time jobs in schools’ programs, which makes the students gain knowledge and earn more money for their income at the same time.

The US is considered to be the paradise of scholarships. Every year, The United States provides thousands of full-ride and half-ride scholarships for international students. Universities in the United States might give some competitive examinations in order to list out some excellent students. Depending on your ability you can get a full-ride or half-ride scholarship. In The US, if your academic achievements are especially good, you can obviously achieve scholarships.
